Milan Dreams

Ronaldinho finished the last season with the most assists

On the very last day of the transfer window AC Milan have signed Robinho. In a transfer season that hasn’t seen many big names being transferred, last day saw a lot of drama with Van der Vaart going to Tottenham and Robinho to Milan.

With this, Milan emerged as one of the shrewd players of the transfer market. Having landed the Swede striker Ibrahimovic on a one-year loan along with buy option at end of the season, they brought two of the best attacking talents of the world to Italy. With this they have made their intentions very clear and that is to play attacking football.

Last season, they struggled for goals but such a repeat would be a big surprise for me. They have got Pirlo, Ronaldinho, Pato, Robinho and Ibrahimovic to bolster their attack. Pirlo kept on misfiring game after game. This put too much pressure on Ronaldinho.

Pato had his problems with finishing. Borriello didn’t inspire any confidence in front of goal and neither did Huntelaar. The less said about their defence, the better. Nesta was good and so was Silva. But that’s all there is to write about.

Abate and Antonini in full back positions were failures. This made their defence a two man show. Ronaldinho was their best player last season. He may not be the same force he was at Nou Camp but still he showed glimpses of his wizardry and a lot of dedication to end with most assists in the season. Had it not been for Borrielo’s wastefullness in front of goal, he would have had much more assists and Milan much more goals.

But this is a new season. It inspires confidence. They have a new manager. Ronaldinho has lost weight and is looking fitter. At the same time stakes are running very high. It will be a season which will decide a lot for Milan. They have got enough firepower in their ranks to rattle to other teams.

The fullbacks will have to play out of their skins to provide support to Nesta. Ibrahimovic will be eager to perform and prove a point to some small time coach Pep Guardiola. Robinho will have similar plans but for him challenges are greater. He didn’t like the English Premier League but he can’t expect any easier life in Italy. Serie A poses the biggest challenge for strikers.Teams play with defensive mentalities and don’t hesitate to make rough tackles. Will Robinho find this to his liking remains to be seen. But history is with him.

Brazilians have always made a mark in Italian football Ronaldo, Rivaldo, Kaka, Lucio, Cesar and many more. Another samba boy with loads of talent is Pato. Milan depend on him a lot. The arrival of Ibra and Robinho would take a lot of burden away from his young shoulders. But one thing is sure he needs to improve his finishing a lot to be counted as one of the best strikers in Europe.

The strategies may be need a relook too. Milan with their policy of direct football almost neglecting the wings, making them too predictable at times.

Maybe at the beginning of the season their are more questions than answers but Milan need to be just mentally strong and they have a team to challenge for the Sereie A crown and UEFA champions league.

Serie A season has begun and once again football is competing with fashion in the streets of Milan for popularity. The Serie A title is expected to stay at San Siro but will it change hands is the major question. Milan look rejuvenated with their new signings Ibrahimovic and Robinho. Inter look as solid as last season but have lost “The Special one”.

Roma would provide that third angle to the title race. Juventus have at best an outside chance to win the title but if that happens would be one of the biggest surprises of the season.

May the best team win and Milan fans would be hoping its the Rossoneris.
