Germany forward Miraslav Klose by scoring the second goal in the 7-1 victory over Brazil in the semi-final of the 2014 World Cup became the highest goal scorer in the history of the tournament. Klose with that goal went to 16 goals one past the Brazilian legend Ronaldo who has 15.

The 36-year old has vowed to retire from international football after the 2014 World Cup and with this feat added to his illustrious career Klose will retire in peace.

Miraslav Klose originally from Poland played his first World Cup for Germany in 2002 held in South Korea & Japan. He instantly shot to fame thanks to his hattrick against Saudi Arabia and he ended up with 5 goals in the tournament creating a new record. All his goals were headers.

The center-forward lead the German attacking line in the 2006 World Cup hosted by them. With Germany as the hosts, pressure was on Klose to deliver the goods and he did indeed splendidly. He won the Golden Boot for his 5 goals but Germany could not make it beyond the semi-final stage.

In the 2010 World Cup he scored 4 goals, two of which came against Argentina in the 4-0 demolition of the South Americans. That match incidentally was the 100th international appearance for the Polish-born striker.

Miraslav Klose now aged 36, equaled Ronaldo’s 15 goal record with a goal against Ghana in the 2-2 draw in the 2014 World Cup. Playing in his 4th consecutive World Cup, a victory for Germany in the final would be a fitting end to a remarkable career.
