Lazio striker Miroslav Klose lost the chance to score a double hat-trick in their match against Bologna in what seemed like an unfair turn of events. After he had scored 5 goals, he was subbed off with 22 minutes left in the game.
Coach Vladimir Petkovic decision angered the player, the club’s supporters, and everyone else watching the match anticipating a moment that would go down in history, had he scored his sixth goal.
The last player to score five goals in a single Serie A game was Roberto Pruzzo for Roma back in 1986. What was disappointing was that Klose was not given the opportunity of creating further history, or rather, the opportunity was taken away from him.
“If I scored five goals today, it’s because of the team,” Klose told Gazzetta dello Sport after receiving a standing ovation. “I’m very satisfied with my performance and obviously my goals.”
Petkovic, however, emphasized the teamwork “We were more clinical and we also put Klose in a position to score those five goals. Congratulations to the team.” He said.
