Mohun Bagan proved too hot to handle for Churchill Brothers as the Kolkatan giants swept aside their opponents with a convincing 3-0 win. Goals from Sunil Chettri, Asim Biswas and Jewel raja were enough to win the hearts of the 20000 fans in front of a lit Yuva Bharati Stadium.
The star of the match was the left footed brazilian, Lima whose mesmerizing skills and clever movement were too much for the Churchill defence. The match started brightly with both teams refusing to sit back, however it was the Kolkatan team that looked most likely to score. Sur Kumar Singh was back in defence for Mohun Bagan after a long spell out by injuries, with Nabi playing ahead of him. On 14th minute they combined well to get behind the Churchill defence but Nabi’s cross wasn’t met by anyone. Soon, they opened the scoring with a brilliant displayof individual skill and grit by Sunil Chettri as he held off two defenders to produce a powerful left-footed strike. This is the Indian’s third goal in two games.

Asim Biswas doubled the scoreline with a guided header just before half time after Lima did brilliantly on the left side. The cross took a slight deflection on its way which aided the bagan striker. However Churchill weren’t going to leave it easy for Mohun Bagan. They came focused after the break and almost scored twice within a gap of five minutes but their striker, Henry misdirected both the headers. Sangram Mukherjee had his moments too. the veteran keeper almost conceeded after he was left stranded nowhere when he attempted to clear the ball, however none of the Churchill brothers’ strikers were sharp enough.
The match somehow got heated at the very end and Chettri, quite unfortunately, was booked. However there was time for one last action, deep into the five minutes’ injury time as a counter attack, led by the substitute Jose Ramires Barreto, produced a goal for the ever heard working Jewel raja.
This win takes Bagan to 2nd place in the table with 12 points just above their arch rivals East Bengal. The two giants will collide against each other on 20th November at Salt Lake Stadium.
