4. Indelible Transfers

Moving to Chelsea on 31st of Jan 2011 with a British transfer fee record of £50M, Torres left many Liverpudlians crestfallen, when he chose ambition over loyalty. In his own words, his decision was purely driven by his commitment to achieve greater heights, which he felt at that point of time, it was more possible with Chelsea than at Liverpool. As you all now know, the rest is history as the fellow Spaniard is still struggling to hit top gear at the Bridge. Yakubu cost’s £1.7M and has lined up 9 goals to Torres’s 2 goals.

We move onto another Spaniard; He came, he saw and he conquered – Fabregas scored his first for Barcelona in the UEFA Super Cup 2011that they won. His reunion was nothing less than special as he returned to his creators, the land which gave birth to his ingenuity. Aresnal could do nothing but settle for a bargain price of £34M, and give away one of their talismanic captains they had with them for years. Torres’s transfer might have been a shocker, but Andy Caroll’s move to Liverpool has to be equally bizarre and ridiculous. Especially considering the astronomical figures lashed out for such a raw talent. Only time will tell if those transfers will live up to their expectations.

The temptation to talk about Joe Cole to Lille, Robbie Keane to La Galaxy and Maradonna to Al Wasl is mouthwatering, as all of them are grabbing headlines for the right reasons, especially El Diego.

5. Unusual Drubbings

The 2011-12 season has already seen some unusual drubbings suffered by teams that traditionally do not falter in the manner, which they have done recently. Man City’s pummeling six against Man Utd at Old Trafford and Arsenal getting smashed 8-2, and then completing the cycle, Chelsea capitulating against the “Gunners” with RVP hat-trick is not something one usually predicts for any Premier League season.Defending seems to be an anonymous part of football this season, and teams are becoming more adventurous, which thus lays down a beautiful game of football for neutrals to gauge upon. Perhaps the pick of the lot has to be the “Noisy Neighbors” laying down a marker for the defending champions at their home ground.

6.Paul Scholes & Gary Neville bid adieu

With over 1100 appearances combined for Man Utd, Paul Scholes and Gary Neville’s retirement is a moment worth remembering as very few footballers come within the brackets of “One-Club-Man”. Their commitment and service to the game has been widely revered, and acknowledged by fellow professionals and pundits who had the opportunity to rub shoulders with them on and off the pitch.Paul Scholes, widely regarded as one of the best midfielders England has ever produced during the premiership stands as a guiding light to aspiring footballers across the globe. Always away from the limelight, Scholes carved out a fine career with Man United and his trophy cabinet speaks just volumes of what great, the little man has achieved.

Gary Neville still boasts of an equally great career and has been at the fulcrum of almost everything Man Utd have done whether it’s been a clumsy tackle or a delightful cross into the box. He might have hung up his boots, but he is running his punditry with SKY as a TV presenter and seems to be enjoying his new role.
