More violence erupts in Brazil

BRAZIL-TEACHERS-PROTEST

There was more crowd trouble at the weekend for Brazilian police to deal with as the law enforcers were forced into taking up their batons in order to control violent crowds across football matches in the country.

Both first and second division matches in Brazil were disrupted by violent outbursts.

Fighting broke out amongst the home fans when Goias beat Atletico-Paranense 3-0.

“This is a joke, they’re not real fans,” said Walter, who refused to celebrate his 12th goal of the season in protest.

“We’ve managed to get into the top half of the table. But well not get into the top four with these kind of fans,” he was quoted as saying on terra.com.br.

“Crowds are low as it is and the ones that do come get up to this nonsense.”

Goias had been told to not host the game after some of their fans used lasers against Sao Paulo in a previous encounter sometime. But the club had managed to get a stay on that order.

It summed up what was a weekend that saw the return of violent clashes in Brazil – Friday’s Serie B match between Paysandu and Avai saw rioting from the Paysandu fans as they took to the streeets the moment their second goal had gone inside.

The match was abandoned with eight minutes remaining.

The violence is a repeat of the incidents that took place during the Confederations Cup of 2013 which saw thousands take to the streets in anger. It even threatened the conduct of next year’s World Cup in Brazil.

This recent spurt is again set to raise everyone’s eyebrows a little bit.
