Most Memorable Man Utd Goals In Last Decade

  • MICHEAL OWEN vs Man city, OLD TRAFFORD 2009 – 10

A former Liverpool star playing center forward for United? It was always going to take something special for Michael Owen to endear himself to United fans and he did just that. In a classic see-saw Manchester derby that saw Manchester City draw level time after time, Michael Owen broke through from Ryan Giggs’ ball to score in the 96th minute with the last kick of the game to score probably the most controversial derby goal ever to send United fans into absolute frenzy.

After a near exit from the club earlier in the season and title race in the balance, Rooney had a thing or two to prove to his fans all around the world and he did just that when he produced what would later be termed as ‘the goal of the season’ and probably the best goal scored in a Manchester derby ever. With match poised at 1-1 and the Old Trafford faithful in presence, Rooney scored with an acrobatic over head kick from Nani’s cross to give the city no chance whatsoever and regain the love and trust of United fans.

  • FEDERICO MACHEDA vs Asotn Villa, OLD TRAFFORD 2008 – 09

Making his debut as a 17 year old for United, Macheda came on in the 60th minute with United 2 – 1 down to Aston Villa who hadn’t won at Old Trafford in nearly 35 years. After Ronaldo equalized with his second in the 80th minute, United seemingly desperate for a goal looked to someone for inspiration. The teenaged Macheda was the man to provide that as he turned his defender in the box and curled a superb shot into the corner to score probably the most crucial goal since Steve Bruce’s winner against Sheffield Wednesday in 1992-93.

  • DIMITAR BERBATOV vs Liverpool, OLD TRAFFORD 2011 – 12

No United played had scored a hat trick against Liverpool since 1946, but the artistic Bulgarian changed all that with a display that left everyone spellbound. With Liverpool coming back to level from 2 goals down and threatening to do what they did two years ago and embarrass United at Old Trafford, Berbatov beat them with his hat-trick. But the highlight was his second goal when he controlled a cross coming into the box with his back to goal and then without changing his direction chipped the ball over head and into the corner.

  • CRISTIANO ROLNALDO vs Portsmouth, OLD TRAFFORD 2008 – 09

Since David Beckham’s departure to Real Madrid, United could never settle on a free kick specialist until the arrival of the future FIFA player of the year. This free-kick, voted as the second best free kick in the history of the premier league fortified Ronaldo’s position as of the best free-kick taker in the world. With the ball nearly 35 yards from goal from the left side as well, Ronaldo produced a thunderbolt which crashed into the top corner to leave David James motionless.
