Mounted police comes into action at Bristol derby

It was a night of shame for English football, as mounted police intervened in Bristol derby between Rovers and City at the first round of the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy.

Bristol Rovers and Bristol City met after almost seven months. The shameful scenes at the ground threw football back into the dark ages yet again.

According to 101greatgoals.com, there were running battles outside the stadium twenty minutes after the final whistle. A group of Rovers fans managed to break through the lines of riot police and confronted the rival fans.

The Police could not control the crowd uprising at the beginning. Battles were fought in the car park of a nearby KFC restaurant before riot police went in to restore order.

More violence were seen near Greville Smyth Park, by Ashton Gate.
