Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has admitted that he is still in the market for another striker, telling reporters that the reason that he didn’t sign a forward during the January window was because his targets were not available.
None of the club’s current forwards have been able to find the net on a regular basis for the club, leading to speculation suggesting that the club could make a move for Atletico Madrid forward Diego Costa.
Mourinho said that the he was keen to avoid making a panic purchase, before revealing that he is waiting for the summer to add to the club’s striking ranks.
“We don’t sign a striker now to be an emergency plan to try to score half-a-dozen goals. That’s not the right approach,” opened Mourinho.
“We’re waiting for the summer to do the right thing in that area, to do exactly what the team needs.”
Mourinho continued by admitting that he has targets in mind – and that they were unattainable in January – but denied that deals were already in place with summer targets.
“No deals [are in place]. We just know basically what we want, and we know what we want is impossible to get in this transfer window.”
Fernando Torres has averaged a goal every 245 minutes in the Premier League this season.
