Rio de Janeiro - Fluminense ace Deco hailed Real Madrid coach Jose Mourinho as the “best in the world,” dismissing former Barcelona coach Pep Guardiola’s claim to the crown in the process.
The Brazilian born Portuguese international is currently on holiday in Portugal, where he won the Champions League with FC Porto under Mourinho’s guidance in 2004, reports Xinhua.
“To win titles in every country you work in, like Mourinho has done, is very difficult. Guardiola is a great coach but he didn’t invent anything. We’ll see, when he works in other countries, if he manages to win titles,” Deco said.
Deco worked briefly under Guardiola at Barcelona before being transferred to Chelsea in 2008. The playmaker worked extensively under Mourinho at Porto, where both made their name during the team’s incredible run to Champions League glory eight years ago.
Deco recently signed a one year extension to his contract at Rio de Janeiro side Fluminense, tying him to the outfit until December 2013.
The veteran arrived at the club in August 2010 and has won two Brazilian titles and a Rio de Janeiro state championship during his time there. It is widely believed next season will be Deco’s last as a professional player.
