London, Sep 1 (IANS): Bermudian striker Nahki Wells’ eight-match scoring streak came to an end but promoted Bradford City earned a point in a 1-1 draw at Stevenage in a League One football match.

Wells, 23, has scored six times this season in six matches, reports CMC.

He came close to scoring again Saturday, including a brilliant shot on 74 minutes that goalkeeper Chris Day parried. In the first half Wells almost grabbed an equaliser but he could only fire over on the stretch from Kyel Reid’s cross.

Wells’ brace in a 2-0 win over Sheffield United helped him break an old Bradford City scoring record of netting in eight successive games, including three at the end of last season.

But the Bradford Telegraph and Argus newspaper said later that Wells only equalled the tally set by Derek Stokes between December 1959 and February 1960, which left the Bermuda international needing to score against Stevenage Saturday to break the record which he now shares with Stokes.

Reid’s superb free-kick three minutes after the break rescued a point for Bradford, who drop to seventh place, as they came from behind to earn the 1-1 draw at Stevenage after Greg Tansey’s penalty kick had put the hosts in front on 23 minutes.
