Manchester United and Chelsea have have been told in no uncertain terms that Marek Hamsik is not for sale by Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis.
He is quoted as saying, as reported by the Express, that, “It’s only journalists who put him on the market.
“Marek has to come and tell me if he wants to go, but there is no more Neapolitan player than him. He has become Neapolitan and for me he is absolutely not for sale.
“Of course if he came to me and asked to leave, then we’d have to discuss it.”
The cultured Slovakian midfielder has been Napoli’s most creative player this season, having fashioned 50 chances for his teammates in 25 appearances.
Napoli’s reluctance to sell is understandable, but Hamsik may well be enticed by the lure of Premier League football and the prospect of playing alongside the likes of Wayne Rooney and Luis Suarez.
The Red Devils could certainly do with an injection of guile in their midfield, although they may be deterred by the enormous £33 million transfer fee the Napoli club would demand from either Manchester United or Chelsea.
Marek Hamsik’s 50 created chances this season makes him Napoli’s most creative player.
