Insigne – A future Arsenal man?

Lorenzo Insigne’s agent has said that his client is honoured to be linked with Arsenal but at the moment things are in a very elementary stage.

Insigne made 36 appearances for Napoli in Serie A this season as he helped the Naples side into third place in the league.

This was a good season for Rafa Benitez in his first season with the club but they finished seven points behind second placed Roma and an incredible 24 points behind champions Juventus.

This means that Benitez still has work to do although if reports are to be believed Arsenal want to ensure that work is done without Insigne.

“We take into account the praising reports that Wenger has given about the player,” Insigne’s agent Antonio Ottaiano said to www.tuttomercatoweb.com.

“We are honoured that a club like Arsenal could have Lorenzo on their wish list.

“However, from here to take it to the next level, that is a possible transfer, there is a huge mountain in between named Napoli.

“The (Naples) club consider him without a shadow of a doubt as one of their cardinal players for their ambitious project.

“Hence, as of today, I don’t see that there can be any further developments unless Arsenal speak to Napoli directly and Napoli change their view on Lorenzo’s role here.”

Arsenal were top of the Barclays Premier League table for more days than any other club but ultimately they still finished in fourth place, seven points behind champions Manchester City.

However it did turn out to be a memorable season for Arsenal as they ended their nine year trophy drought. The last time Arsenal had won a piece of silverware was when they beat Manchester United in the FA Cup in 2005. The FA Cup proved to be their saviour again as they defeated Hull City 3-2 in the final of this year’s edition.
