The transfer window is upon us! And like in times pertaining to the recent past, this summer bubbling with movement and activity in the english league. Chelsea are set to be signing young talent thick and fast and are linked to ever other hot prospect surfacing on any league across the world. Arsenal are said to be realistically looking for reinforcements to their squad and if reports are to be believed, Arsene has already made a 4million pound bit for Peter Odemwingie. On the other hand, Kenny Dalglish and liverpool seem to be linked with every other player out on the transfer market. From Eden Hazard to Carlton Cole, there’s one report or another saying the team from Anfield is interested in them. And this brings us down to Manchester United. The new English champions are also linked with a considerable amount of talent from foreign leagues. From De Gea, to Sneijder, to the Mexican, Erick Torres, considerable amount of gossip is heading Old Trafford’s way. Yet, its the two players from the home leagues that they are being drawn with, that iss ruffling feathers all across England and the rest of the World.
Reports suggest that Ashley Young and Samir Nasri are on their way to join Fergie and his boys. Now Young has been under the radar of the Red Devils for quite some time now. The winger has visibly impressed Sir Alex, and as it seems, the club is preparing to launch a serious bid for the wideman this summer. Youngs Aston Villa team mate and English compatriot Darren Bent has come out and said that Ashley wants to play for United and is excited about the news linking him to the newly crowned English Champions. He’s also lavished praise on Young and , stated that he is top class material.
Yet, where would this transfer leave the team? During the interest that was shown last year, many looked upon Young as a direct replacement to Ryan Giggs down the touchline. This year, Ashley has come forward and stated that he is ready to go to a bigger club in order to face new challenges and compete at the highest level. That comment alone has seen him being linked heavily with a move to Manchester. Yet, the same would put Nani’s Manchester United future in serious doubt. In turn, this would be quite unlikely as the Portugese winger has had his most productive season for United so far, and was voted the best player of the season by his teammates. On the other side of the wing is Antonio Valencia, a player who was key to Manchester United’s late surge for the Premier League title, and is rated highly by Sir Alex. Neither one of these two would sit out for a new player, and that brings us to a conclusion that Young would be brought infield into a more Centre-Attacking-Midfield role. This would make him fill the gap that United and England legend Paul Scholes has left, after he retired at the commencement of this past season.
Now the one transfer that’s confusing everyone. Samir Nasri to Manchester United. Most people seem to be asking why it’s happening, rather than how it’s going to happen. Ever since Patrice Evra came out and addressed Nasri, saying, “Little Prince, if you want to become the king, you know where you have to go” reporters have gone mad in drawing conclusions that Nasri is one of the pieces that completes the jigsaw puzzle that is Manchester United. Contract talks regarding Samir and Arsenal have gone down since the season ended, and the french prodigy is expected to be heading outside The Emirates. Nasri has joined Arsenal in 2008 and his current contract runs till ’12. The gaffer at The Theater of Dreams seems to be genuinely interested in the lad, and there is quite a good probability that he’ll be in United colors by the start of next season. Yet, what role he plays in will be a cause of thought. He could play on the left wing, like he did for Arsenal putting Nani’s future into further doubt, or again, come inside and play as an attacking midfielder. The possibilities are aplenty, and the whispering voices do usher towards it, but it seems a bit unlikely as it throws a doubting light unto many players in Manchester United.
Whether it will happen or not, these two transfers could turn out to be the best deals of the summer as Sir Alex looks to rebuild a wounded team. Many players including youthful talent is rumored to leave Old Trafford, but with these two coming in, United would be favorites for the next season’s premier league. As of now, we can only wait and watch, and hope the best for the players and their teams.
