New Delhi, Aug 6 (IANS) Defending champions India will take on Syria in the opening match of the Nehru Cup football tournament which kicks-off at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium here Aug 22.
Besides the hosts, Cameroon, Syria, Nepal and Maldives make up the five-team group. Each team will play each other once in the group league matches with the top two advancing to the final.
India has won the last two editions of the Nehru Cup and had to overcome the Syrians on both occasions.
The Indian squad is presently undergoing their preparatory camp at the KSFA Stadium in Bangalore and is likely to relocate to Jaypee Greens, Greater Noida in mid-August.
The final is slated for September 2.
