Former Manchester United captain Nemanja Vidic has told reporters that he should have moved to Italy years ago, admitting that the style of football in Serie A suits his game.
Vidic left Man United for Inter at the end of the season after eight years at Old Trafford, moving to Italy on a free transfer. The 32-year-old won five Premier League titles at United, but believes that he should have moved to Italy many years ago.
The Serbia international made 25 league appearances for United last season, but despite playing a large number of games he agreed a move to Inter at the end of his deal.
Vidic told reporters that his arrival in Italy is long overdue, citing his belief that his style of play is well-suited to Italian football.
“I should have arrived to Italy many years ago,” he told reporters. “Finally I have the opportunity to play here.
“I don’t think this is a step backwards in my career, I believe this is a step forward for me.
“Italian football suits my game well and, as I said before, I have joined one of the big European clubs.
“English football is different to Italian but that doesn’t mean that Italian is more simple.”
Vidic is reportedly to captain Inter next season. He won 70% of his aerial duels in the Premier League last season and made 268 clearances, averaging 11.57 per 90 minutes played.
