If reports from various sources are to be believed, Manchester United skipper Nemanja Vidic will start pre-season training at the Carrington Training Centre this week. Over the past six months the Serbia defender has been working hard on his rehabilitation following the knee injury he suffered in Manchester United´s 2–1 defeat against Basel at St Jakob Park in December 2011.
As expected, Nemanja Vidic will make his return from his cruciate ligament injury in time for the start of the upcoming English Premier League campaign. A reassuring presence in the heart of the Manchester United defence, the former Serbian international has made almost 200 first team appearances in the red shirt since his arrival at Old Trafford back in January 2006. Sir Alex Ferguson: “Hopefully we are in a really strong position with central defenders. Phil Jones and Chris Smalling were bought for the long-term and have proved that they can play in other positions of course and when Nemanja Vidic comes back at the start of next season we will have a strong defensive core there. He won’t travel with us on the pre-season tour but he will certainly be ready for the start of the season. Then I can pick and choose whatever two I fancy or whatever two are in consistent form.”
