Nepal and Afghanistan clash at the Central Republican Stadium in neutral Tajikistan on Saturday for an international friendly. Ranked 176th in the world, the Gorkhalis are looking to pick themselves up from a big loss earlier this week.
The Tajiks crushed them 4-0 on Wednesday, as Shervoni Mabatshoev and Alisher Dzhalilov struck twice apiece.
It extended their winless run in all competitions to five games this year, excluding two unofficial friendlies. Now into their last fixture of the calendar year, the south Asian team will be keen to wrap it up on a positive note.
Nepal had called-up 23 players for this month's double-header, and after their crushing loss against Tajikistan, they are expected to field a much-changed XI.
Meanwhile, the Afghans are playing their first game of the international break here. They are scheduled to face Tajikistan next week in what is their last game of 2024.
It's been an interesting year for the Lions of Khorasan, who have played only four games thus far. They first held India to a 0-0 draw in the FIFA World Cup qualifiers before defeating them 2-1 away from home.
If that wasn't enough, Afghanistan then held two-time defending Asian champions Qatar, before eventually falling to a 1-0 loss at the hands of Kuwait.
Despite their best efforts, they bowed out of the race for the 2026 showpiece by finishing last in their group. But with two more games to go, Usmon Toshev's side have a chance to end the year on a positive note.
