Defeat by Manchester United burned all hopes for Chelsea to grab the Champions League Trophy (again). The Blues will end their summer with no silverware as Manchester United get set to grab their record 19th EPL title. With misfiring 50 million striker Fernando Torres failing to open his account for his new club and the new David Luiz being ineligible for the Champions League, owner Roman Abromovich has had enough and set to spend more this summer and predictions said it will be the second ‘big’ change that will transform Chelsea since 2002. Current ageing players are under threat for their place and manager Carlo Ancelotti is also predicted to be axe at the end of the season.
With many rumours going around as names of managers are popping up everywhere as suggestions for Ancelotti’s replacements such as Guus Hiddink, Jose Mourinho, Van Basten and so many more ridiculous predictions. Guus Hiddink has been already cancelled out as the Turkish Federation wants to hold him longer and the other possible targets are being questioned about their feelings for working in England such as Andre Villa Boas and Marcello Lippi who replied that they love to manage an English Club like Chelsea. But the most popular and on demand target for the replacement is former Chelsea boss and current Real Madrid manager, Jose Mourinho. Many look at the Portuguese as the only suitable replacement as the Special One ‘made’ Chelsea side the way it is today. The man himself had given hints countless times that he would return to England someday. But having a long period of contract, he won’t be able to be here for the moment.
In my perception, the whole replacement thing, whether it is true or just rumors, are just a silly decision to destroy Chelsea even more. Managers aren’t soaps that you can change when you feel you are not clean. They take time to blend in with the players and create harmony in the team. Throwing Ancelotti away won’t give Chelsea a new look. Just because Guus Hiddick made a difference in the team by winning the FA Cup doesn’t mean it can happen again.
If you see the whole Chelsea squad, you can definitely see Mourinho’s men still intact with the club. In my opinion, Abromovich should throw away the ageing players and let Ancelotti create his young team. But the impatient owner doesn’t see that as an option. All he knows, that he needs a team ready ‘immediately’ (literally) out of nowhere to win the Champions League, that seems to be his only wish. A silly and impatient decision like that would result that Abromovich will NEVER win the Champions League. Here is an extra thought of the new ‘Big’ change that will take place in the summer:
The ‘BIG’ Change:
Expect the likes of ageing players such as Paulo Ferriera, Jose Bosingwa, Nicolas Anelka, Yuri Zhirkov and also Frank Lampard to be off loaded in the summer. Didier Drogba might make an exit to despite the form he is trying to build that is currently working. John Terry though might be safe as defenders don’t have that ‘ageing’ impact on the team.
Fernando Torres might be off loaded in the next summer after this if he fails to perform in the 2011/2012 season. But that is not our greatest concern as he might have some hope left. The misfiring striker has been tipped to find form as the Ancelotti said that Manchester United striker, Wayne Rooney is the ideal example of how the tables can be turn.
Ancelotti said:
“Obviously he’s not happy, and he is disappointed, but it’s not easy for him to manage at this moment. He has to show character. Rooney lived the same situation. He was not playing well and not scoring, but everyone at the club maintained good confidence with him. Everyone believed that he could move on, and he moved very well. Now Rooney has come back to playing fantastic football. Torres is the same. One goal will give him the opportunity to move on quickly. Torres is a fantastic transfer, not just for the present but also the future. To judge him now is not right. We have to wait. He will be a fantastic player for the future of Chelsea”.
Meanwhile, we also have to look the possible players that might be coming in such as Neymar Da Silva, Romelu Lukaku and Kaka. Chelsea also has to look for right backs as Jose Bosingwa’s replacement. Ivanovic is a suitable right back but he doesn’t have the speed to run up the flanks. As for that, I think the most ideal replacement is Real Madrid’s Sergio Ramos. With him and Ashley Cole, running up and down the flanks, I think it will be a new look and the right capability to conquer Europe next season. One thing is for sure, Chelsea are going to spend again in the summer, and spend big.
