New year resolution: Green light for Villas-Boas

The One Who Brings The New Era

January returns as Chelsea shows their poor form yet again for nearly a year now. The £50mil former Liverpool man Fernando Torres would see this as humiliating year as he made the big switch on January transfer deadline day earlier this year. The Spaniard is still struggling to find form and the likes of Daniel Sturridge who is flourishing on the field is pushing El Nino aside. Nevertheless he will be featuring in most of the games this January as senior strikers Didier Drogba and Solomon Kalou are absent following the duties for their country in the African Cup of Nations.

The poor form of the entire team worries Chelsea fans as the club’s position in the table are tumbling down game by game. With three 1-1 draws already, Andres Villas Boas needs to make a change of plans and possibly a major change in the squad. Rumors have it that by internal intelligence that Russian owner Roman Abromovich has given AVB the green light to spend in this window to strengthen the team and possibly repair the ageing squad. A possibility of a £150mil maximum will be given to the manager so that every role in the squad is covered.

The transfer window is not yet opened but yet Chelsea has announce that two of their current players (Nicolas Anelka and Alex) are leaving after written transfer request are submitted and a new player is arriving (Gary Cahill). Nicolas Anelka confirmed his move to china club Shanghai Shenhua for a £5mil deal while Alex is still unsure of his next destination but reports suggest that he wants to return to Brazil, his homeland. But the fact that he may be a part of the deal for Chelsea to acquire the service of Juventus’ outcast Milos Krasic has never been denied.

Meanwhile, the deal of Bolton’s Gary Cahill is almost done as Chelsea looks to finish the deal as soon as possible. There is no doubt that AVB fancies the player, as he gave his piece of mind towards the reporters:

‘Gary has been involved in a struggle with Bolton and a fight for position in the league. I think his technical attributes are immense, and his pace is fantastic as well. There are weaknesses that stand but they are also related to the collective organisation of Bolton and that’s why Owen [Coyle] is trying to correct them.’

AVB has also intentions of buying other players as well. So far there are only 3 names that link heavily with the blues aside from Gary Cahill.

1. HulkHulk fired 36 goals last season as Porto won an historic quadruple under the stewardship of Villas-Boas, before the latter left Estádio do Dragão for Stamford Bridge. Now, reports suggest Villas-Boas is set to raid his old club to boost Chelsea’s forward line in January. Hulk – full name Givanildo Vieira de Souza – has a buy-out clause of 100 million euros (£84 million), though the Blues will try and negotiate to lower the price. The Times is reporting that Hulk is high on AVB’s priority list and the forward would be interested in making the move to the Premier League.

The striker’s agent Theodoro Fonseca said:

“Hulk would wholeheartedly agree to work with Andre at Porto or Chelsea, or at any another team because he really likes the way he coaches”

“Andre knows Hulk very well and they have a good relationship. Hulk at Chelsea? Anything is possible.”

2. Milos KrasicKrasic has been identified as a key signing. Krasic usually plays as a right-winger, which would let Daniel Sturridge move into the centre in Didier Drogba’s absence.Villas-Boas is proposing to take Krasic on loan until the end of the season after the 27 year-old fell out of favour with Juventus. He has not played for the Italian club for two months and has completed 90 minutes only once this season despite being one of the best players in the squad. Although Krasic is no longer wanted by his current club, the Italians would prefer a permanent switch. Krasic’s agent, Dejan Joksimovic, has confirmed Chelsea’s interest but they are not the only club inquiring about him. It is thought that Ivanovic may have asked Krasic whether he would want to move to Chelsea with Villas-Boas stepping up his plans to reshape his squad.

3. Gonzalo HiguainTalks between Spanish giants Real Madrid and Chelsea are continuing over a possible move for Argentine striker Gonzalo Higuain are becoming more and more plausible for this January transfer move.Should Higuain decide on a move to Stamford Bridge he will of course be cup tied for the Champions League. Although the negativity to that fact, he may be used fresh for the EPL matches as Andre Villas Boas begins to look to close the gap on the Manchester clubs once again.

Higuain is currently on form and might be a hero for the Blues should he turns Chelsea’s fate in table around. Meanwhile, Real Madrid may be hoping for this deal to be a success so that the cash they receive can be used to purchase the Napoli hotshot, Edison Cavani as he is now one of the most deadliest strikers on the planet
