Ex-Barcelona defender Rafael Marquez has agreed a mutual release agreement with the New York Red Bulls after more than two years in the United States.
“This decision has been made in the best interests of both parties concerned,” said Red Bulls Sporting Director Andy Roxburgh. “Rafa has accomplished a great deal during his career and is a top quality player. We want to thank him for his service to the Red Bulls and wish him the best of luck in the next stage of his career.”
The Mexican played 45 league games for the club in all. The departure means that the club have a spot for a ‘designated player’ empty, boosting speculation of a star arrival lined up in the coming weeks.
