Newcastle 1-0 Arsenal: Player Ratings as Alexander Isak hands the Gunners second defeat in three PL games

Arsenal fell to a 0-1 defeat against Newcastle United on Saturday after they failed to get their shots on target against the Magpies. In what could potentially be a telling defeat in the title race, Mikel Arteta's men suffered a defeat on the road for the second time in the Premier League this season.

Swedish striker Alexander Isak got the sole goal in the contest when he combined with Anthony Gordon in the 12th minute.


Arsenal player ratings:

David Raya - 6.5/10

The Arsenal goalkeeper was impressive but was beaten once in the game for the decisive goal in the contest. Raya made three saves in the game and made 11 recoveries.

Thomas Partey - 8/10

The Ghanian had a solid appearance for Arsenal at right-back and gave a good account of himself in his 86 minutes on the pitch. He completed 91 percent of his passes and won two tackles in the match.

William Saliba - 7/10

The Frenchman had a fine display for Arsenal and completed the most passes in the match (62). He made four recoveries and completed 94 percent of his passes.

Gabriel Maghales - 7/10

The Brazilian defender was impressive alongside William Saliba, but the solitary goal they conceded sentenced Arsenal to defeat. He completed 87 percent of his passes and won four duels.

Jurrien Timber - 7/10

The 23-year-old played 71 minutes and gave a good account of his abilities in the match against Newcastle. He created one chance and made three passes into the opposition's final third.

Mikel Merino - 6.5/10

The Spanish international played for 61 minutes and managed a shot on target but could not help his side prevent defeat. He made two recoveries and won three duels.

Declan Rice -6.5/10

The English midfielder was not at his best for Arsenal today despite playing all 90 minutes. He created two chances and took two shots, but could not do anything to prevent defeat.

Bukayo Saka - 6/10

Bukayo Saka did not have a good match against Newcastle. He lost the most duels in the match (12) and did not get any shots on target in his 90 minutes on the pitch.

Gabriel Martinelli - 6/10

Gabriel Martinelli was another part of the Arsenl attack that failed to hit the back of the net today despite having the lion's share of the possession. He did not manage any shots in his 61 minutes on the pitch.

The German striker had a poor game against Newcastle. He did not manage a shot on target in his 90 minutes on the pitch.

The English right-back played 19 minutes but could not create anything to change the course of the match. He made three recoveries in his time on the pitch.

Gabriel Jesus - 6/10

The Brazilian striker came on for 19 minutes and was another part of the ineffective Gunners' attack in the game. He did not manage a single shot in the game and only managed two touches in the opposition box.

Jorginho - NA

The Brazilian came on late and did not have enough time to influence the course of the game. He managed to pick up a booking in his four minutes on the pitch.
