Newcastle’s win over FC Metalist Kharkiv came as good news to all Magpies fans all over the world, but it was not all good for one fan. Reports suggest that there was small cases of violence before and after the match.
A Newcastle fan was taken to the hospital for stitches after his group arrived and was ambushed at the Sportyvna Metro station at the Metalist Stadium in Ukraine.
It is believed that the travelling fan did make it to the match, just as Alan Pardew’s side won the match 0-1. The goal came from a penalty Shola Ameobi took following a harsh tackle by the Metalist keeper on Sissoko.
After the match ended, many home fans climbed over the hoardings and ran onto the pitch to confront the stewards.
24 hours before this incident, there was a very similar incident that involved Tottenham fans in a pub in Lyon, France.
