Newcastle United are following the progress of FC Metz striker Diafra Sakho.
The Daily Mail are reporting that the magpies for now only wish to monitor the progress of the 23 year old striker Senegalese who has been outstanding in Ligue 2 for Metz and scored 12 goals in 17 league games.
The 6 ft 1?2 in striker has made 71 appearances for Les Grenats scoring 20 goals. Sakho is a good header of the ball and has pace and the physical ability to be a real handful for the defenders.
There has been a lot of speculation regarding the future of Papiss Cisse at Newcastle with clubs from Germany and Russia interested in the services of coincidentally a former Metz player.
Uncertainty also surrounds the futures of other strikers at the club i.e. Loic Remy who is only on loan till the end of season from Championship side Queens Park Rangers and Shola Ameobi who is out of contract in the summer and having failed to find the back in Premier League of the net for over a year.
Even though Sakho has been prolific this season, his record before that has not been so and hence the caution and tracking the progress rather than jumping straight in.
