According to the Metro, Newcastle would welcome the signing of impending free agent Nicklas Bendtner if he agreed to a lower salary.
Arsenal passed up the opportunity to offer the 26-year-old a renewed contract at the Emirates, so Bendtner is now searching for a new club for next season.
Alongside interest in Bendtner from continental Europe, Newcastle are said to have put the feelers out regarding a possible switch to St James’ Park.
Some reports suggest that Alan Pardew is set to offer the Danish international a two-year-deal, as the Magpies look to bolster their forward line after the Loic Remy and Luuk de Jong loan deals expired last season.
Bendtner currently earns £52,000-a-week at Arsenal, but will have to lower his expectations should he wish to play for the North East club.
The Copenhagen-born striker has found first-team opportunities in short supply of late, only making two league starts for The Gunners last term.
Nevertheless, his two goals in that period, at a shot conversion rate of 40%, demonstrate that Bendtner can still be an asset in the Premier League, should he elect to remain in England.
