Why Newcastle must push through permanent deal for clinical Loic Remy

Remy has made a fanstastic start for Newcastle

According to various sources, including The Mirror, Newcastle United will try to turn Loic Remy’s loan move from Queens Park Rangers into a permanent deal in January, rather than wait until the summer.

The Frenchman has been in inspired form in recent weeks, scoring five goals in his first five appearances for the Magpies and manager Alan Pardew is working hard to persuade him to make it a permanent switch in order to stop other clubs pouncing.

Remy will be vital for Newcastle this season, as early season form has proved and Pardew would do well to secure a permanent deal as soon as possible. Having played just two full games for his new club, Loic Remy has already been Newcastle’s best performer.

With a Squawka Performance Score of 206 to his name, Remy is leagues above any other attacking player at the club. Italian defender Davide Santon is the only player in near proximity, with 172.

Remy’s Performance Score breakdown this season

Remy’s conversion rate is particularly impressive, when analysing his shooting attributes it becomes clear why he is so prolific in front of goal. Having scored 35.7% of his chances he is currently second in the Premier League goal rankings. He has even been more clinical that Daniel Sturridge and Robin Van Persie in terms of the opportunities that have come his way.

Without Remy’s contribution this season, Newcastle really could be in trouble. With 55.5% of the club’s league goals so far to his name, it is fair to say he is carrying the attacking burden for Pardew’s men. In fact, Newcastle’s alternative forward options have offered almost nothing in terms of goals. Yoan Gouffran has one goal, whilst the club’s three other strikes have come from midfield.

Remy has even brought a new creative edge to the team. With a passing accuracy of 80%, he has created 6 chances for his team mates – one of these chances even led to a goal. His ability to take the ball past an opponent is also particularly beneficial. From an attempted 13 take-ons, Remy has emerged successful 54% of the time. In the bottom half of the table, teams need players with individual skill and flair, Remy brings this to Newcastle in abundance.

I would be very surprised if Newcastle don’t face any competition for the former Marseille hitman’s signature within the next few months. The Frenchman has been in fantastic form so far this campaign, with his goals simply confirming the quality he possess. He has been the shining light for the Magpies in a season that has had little to offer. I’m sure Pardew will do all he can do make this loan deal a permanent move – it’s fair to say he is very much needed at St James Park.
