Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew handed 7 game ban

Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew has been given a 7-game ban by the disciplinary committee after he admitted to a misconduct charge at a disciplinary hearing on Tuesday. He had head-butted Hull City’s David Meyler after an altercation between the two on the touchline during the Premier League game between Hull City and Newcastle United on the 1st of March 2014.

Pardew had been charged with improper conduct described as “serious violent” and “non-standard” by the governing body.

The first 3 matches of the ban are a complete Stadium ban, whereas the remaining 4 are touchline bans. The Newcastle United manager has also been fined £60,000 and given a warning as to his future conduct.

This was the first major case when violent conduct charges were issued against a Premier League manager; the closest anyone had come earlier was when Paul Ince (manager of Blackpool then) was banned for 5 games for a “violent push” on a match official.

Pardew has had a history of outbursts and displays of emotions, with the most recent one being in January 2014, when he was caught on camera swearing at Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini. In August 2012, he was banned from the touchline for 2 games and fined £20,000 for pushing an assistant referee, an offence that was likely to have been taken into account when deciding on the sanction because it occurred within the last two seasons
