They are called the Magpies so they ought to be intelligent and they have a Toon army so they have to be strong, yes I am talking about Newcastle United. One of the biggest club in English Football or if I can say the club with eight highest total of major honour won by an English club with four First Division titles (old name of EPL) and 6 FA cup titles under their belt. Newcastle have St. James’ Park as their home ground this is one stadium which would give chills down the spine to any visiting club, Toons castle is known for its hostile atmosphere and the immense pressure the visiting players have to go through all because of the backing of the TOON ARMY. This is the club which once had the deadly combination of one of the world’s best striker home grown boy Alan Shearer and one of the world’s best manager Sir Bobby Robson but this article of mine is not to sing the song about how great the club is everyone knows that but returning to Premier League after being relegated for the first time in their history, their first season has been everything about downfall. And by downfall I don’t mean being relegated but its about digging a hole within the club with such great history, such great players and such great Toon army.
So lets look at the major shockers that I felt for a club I admire a lot:
1. Sacking of Coach Chris Hughton:
I was shocked and was also saddened by this decision when after the defeat at the hands of West Brom NUFC board decided to sack the man who brought the club back to Premier League. For me this was the biggest mistake and that was confirmed with the official statement from the club saying “they wanted a manger with more experience who could take the club forward” come on get a hold of your senses you are talking against a man who is a legend at White Hart Lane playing for Spurs for 13 yrs this guy knows the league inside out. This decision was met with ill comments from media, players and the supporters including Sol Campbell who said this decision “makes no sense” and former player John Anderson saying he was “devastated and angry” with the sacking. But the Magpies did get a black feather on their hat with this decision as the sacking is now called as ‘Sacking of the decade.
2. Letting go of the giant:
Andy Carroll one of the most promising player in English football right now who has a thunderous left foot and no one can beat him when it comes to aerial attack and even if I forget all this for a moment for god sake he was Toons leading goal scorer but from all this the only thing the Newcastle were seeing was a lot of money. Which they eventually got when Carroll signed for the Kops for 35million pounds and at the same time what Newcastle strike force was left with was the inexperienced Leon Best and Nile Ranger and every second growing old Kuqi and only experienced striker being Shola Ameobi. And I still feel if Hughton would have been there he would have put his foot down to keep Carroll at St. James’ Park for at least the ongoing season. I am sorry to say this but these two decisions show you spineless characteristics oh I forgot NUFC cut their back bone with their own hands when they sacked Hughton.
3. Charismatic Captain leaves:
I see no reason why would you let your captain leave to a relegated club oh no I do see it when you don’t care about the coach who gave the Premier League life back to the Magpies and don’t care about your prolific striker why would you care about the captain whose playing style, his goal machine attributes and his control over his players are just unmatchable. The news Kevin Nolan moving to just relegated West Ham came as a shocker but not as a surprise cause by now I was already sick of the ‘I don’t care attitude’ of Newcastle United board members.
4. Joey Barton:
Didn’t want to add anything to the name as I just love this player for his no s**t attitude on and off field. While I was reading these three mistakes of NUFC this guy was feeling each and every pain of these decisions carrying the whole team on the shoulder Barton helped the Toons achieve a respectable 12th position while they could have easily been relegated again. But when Barton got saturated and was not seeing any improvement in the club he decided to voice his views and what does he get a place in the available for transfer list and all Alan Pardew could say was “Its my decision that Barton will play or not”. Jose Enrique who also voiced against the debacle that was happening at St. James’ Park he is now happily transferred toLiverpool at least he would never walk alone. But for me Joey is a man with a brick strong morals and I respect him for still being at NUFC.
I BELIEVE DECISIONS NOT ONLY DECIDE THE PATH YOU GOING TO WALK BUT ALSO THE DESTINATION CHOOSE TO REACH AND HENCE I BELIEVE SEEING ALL THESE DECISIONS I FEEL IT WOULD BE BETTER FOR THE NUFC TO MAKE THE RIGHT DECISIONS AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. BECAUSE I KNOW THE TOON ARMY AND THE CITY OFNEWCASTLEDESERVE BETTER.
