Manchester United attacker Alejandro Garnacho has won the Puskas award at the 2024 FIFA The Best Awards on Tuesday (December 17).

The Argentine youngster is coming off a breakthrough 2023-24 season for the Red Devils. In 50 appearances across competitions, Garnacho contributed 10 goals and five assists.

Seven of those goals and four assists in 36 games came in the Premier League, where United finished a lowly eighth. Garnacho also contributed a goal and an assist in six games in the Red Devils' victorious FA Cup campaign. That strike came in the all-important 2-1 upset win over holders Manchester City in the final.

The United attacker was also a part of Argentina's victorious Copa America 2024 team as the Albiceleste defended their title. Garnacho's lone game was a 66-minute appearance in the 2-0 group-stage win over Peru.

On Tuesday, Garnacho won the FIFA Puskas Award 2024 at the Aspire Academy in Doha, Qatar, for his brilliant overhead strike against Everton in the Premier League.

He said in a video message after receiving the award (as per Sportstar):

“It was a special goal, and I will always remember this. Thank you for your support."

This season, Alejandro Garnacho is up to eight goals and four assists in 24 games across competitions for United. He has scored thrice apiece in the Premier League - where United are 13th - and the EFL Cup, where the Red Devils play Tottenham Hotspur in the quarter-final on Thursday (December 19).

He has also scored once each in the Community Shield - which United lost on penalties to Manchester City - and the UEFA Europa League, where the Red Devils are seventh after six games.

Manchester United are in the midst of a difficult season, which has seen the ouster of Eric ten Hag, who was replaced by former Sporting manager Ruben Amorim last month.

Although results under the Portuguese tactician have been mixed, the Red Devils are coming off a huge result at the weekend. After trailing for 88 minutes, United scored twice in as many minutes to stun holders Manchester City at their own den at the weekend in the Premier League.

Alejandro Garnacho and Co. next lock horns on Thursday at Spurs for a place in the semi-final. The Red Devils won the competition in 2022-23 but endured an early ouster last season.
