Former Chelsea centre-back Jason Cundy has hailed Jadon Sancho after the latter produced a brilliant piece of skill to help set up their opener. This occurred during the Blues' 1-1 draw against Crystal Palace in their Premier League clash at Selhurst Park (Saturday, December 4).
Sancho executed a lovely feint, letting the ball slide past him and the Palace defender before making a wonderful run to assist Cole Palmer. The latter finished well to break the deadlock in the 14th minute. However, the Eagles bounced back in the second half to clinch a point via Jean-Phillipe Mateta's leveler (82').
Cundy said (via The Chelsea Chronicle):
“It’s a brilliant piece of play. Sancho lets the ball run across his body. He goes on the outside before flicking it with the inside of his right foot. Palmer has a touch and slides it past Dean Henderson. Palmer scores again, but let me tell you now, this is all about Sancho, a brilliant piece of individual skill.”
In addition to his assist, Sancho had a good game down the left wing during his 86 minutes on the pitch. The 24-year-old completed 36 passes with an accuracy of 95 percent, created two chances, won three duels, and completed three dribbles from an attempted four.
"Hopefully next time he can be more lucky" - Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca provides verdict on Nicolas Jackson following Crystal Palace draw
Enzo Maresca has admitted Nicolas Jackson was unlucky not to find the back of the net despite having multiple chances after his side were held to a 1-1 draw against Crystal Palace.
Jackson had numerous opportunities to extend Chelsea's lead but could not be clinical in front of goal. The 23-year-old forward landed none of his four shots on target, lost seven duels, and created no chances.
During the post-match press conference, Maresca stated (via Football.London):
"For a striker, sometimes they score all their chances, sometimes they don't score. He had two or three clear chances today so that means he is there and ready. Hopefully next time he can be more lucky."
Despite his poor performance, Jackson has been effective this season, garnering nine goals and three assists in 20 appearances across competitions.
Chelsea are currently fourth in the league table, with 36 points from 20 games. They are nine points behind leaders Liverpool, who have two games in hand.
