Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen has blasted La Liga for not implementing goal-line technology after his team saw a potential goal ruled out against Real Madrid.
El Clasicos, more often than not, make the headlines for major controversies. Real Madrid's 3-2 win over their arch-rivals on Sunday, April 21 was no exception.
Barcelona would have been 2-1 up, with wonderkid Lamine Yamal flicking the ball goalward before seeing it pushed out by Andriy Lunin. VAR did check the incident and ruled that it was not a goal, but Ter Stegen has bemoaned the lack of goal-line technology.
La Liga is one of the few top-flight leagues in Europe not to implement the technology, and Ter Stegen labeled this as a 'shame'. The Germany international said, as quoted by Fabrizio Romano:
“It’s a shame for football world. No goal line technology, why? There’s a lot of money into this industry, but apparently not for the most important thing. It’s just a shame."
Barcelona started the game really well and took a 1-0 lead inside six minutes, with Raphinha teeing up Andreas Christensen. However, they were pegged back in the 18th minute. Vinicius Junior converted a spot-kick earned by Lucas Vazquez, with Pau Cubarsi giving away the penalty.
Substitute Fermin Lopez gave Barcelona a 2-1 advantage in the 69th minute, which was canceled out by Vazquez just four minutes later. Jude Bellingham came up with a 91st-minute winner for Real Madrid as Vazquez turned provider.
Real Madrid now find themselves 11 points clear at the top of La Liga with just six games left, while Barca are second in the table.
Barcelona ready to part ways with midfielder for €70 million fee: Reports
Barcelona are reportedly ready to part ways with Dutch midfield maestro Frenkie de Jong for a fee of around €70 million. As per reports, the former Ajax star is wanted by Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich, who saw their monopoly in German football come to an end at the hands of Bayer Leverkusen.
Bayern Munich saw their 11-year Bundesliga winning streak broken by Xabi Alonso's Bayer Leverkusen, who clinched their first-ever German top-flight title. It is understood that the Bavarian side are looking to bolster their midfield ranks to reassert their dominance in German football.
Even though De Jong is a key player for the Blaugrana, the Catalan giants could reportedly cash in on him for €70 million because of their financial situation. However, the Dutchman is understood to be keen on staying at the Camp Nou despite interest from Bayern and Paris Saint-Germain (PSG).
