Barcelona star Dani Olmo's agent Andy Bara has confirmed his decision to stay at the club amid Arsenal and Manchester United's reported interest in signing him. Bara's confirmation comes amid the club's complications regarding registering Olmo with LaLiga.
Barcelona were given the deadline of December 31 by LaLiga to register Dani Olmo. Failure to register the player can result in the Spaniard not being allowed to play for the remainder of the season or leaving the club as a free agent. The Catalans appealed to Commercial Court No. 10 to register him as a precautionary measure which was rejected.
A subsequent appeal was made to the Investigation Court but was once again denied ahead of the deadline. With looming uncertainty over Olmo's future, the Euro 2024 winner attracted interest from multiple European giants including Arsenal and Manchester United.
With hours remaining for Barcelona to secure Dani Olmo's registration, the Spaniard's agent, Andy Bara confirmed the player's decision to stay at the club. He said (via Fabrizio Romano for GiveMeSport):
"The decision made by Dani is to stay at Barcelona as he wants to play for Barça. We are not considering any other option. Dani wants to play for Barca."
According to MARCA, Barcelona have reached an agreement with a Qatari fund to sell VIP boxes at the Camp Nou to secure €100 million. The money could reportedly secure Dani Olmo and his teammate Pau Victor's registration and help the club return to the 1:1 rule.
It is a matter of a few hours before Dani Olmo's future is expected to be clear as the player will be able to leave for free starting January 1, 2025.
Ian Wright urges Arsenal to sign Dani Olmo amid Manchester United interest
According to quotes via TBR Football, former Arsenal star Ian Wright urged the Gunners to sign Dani Olmo amid interest from Manchester United. Wright compared Olmo's situation to that of Martin Odegaard, who had joined Arsenal on loan from Real Madrid before securing a permanent transfer. He said:
"He’s got the vibe for me, Dani Olmo, that he needs a home. He needs a home, like how we gave Martin Odegaard. You need a home, Dani. Have you seen what’s happened with Martin Odegaard? He needs a home. Come to Arsenal. I’m telling you, you are exactly what we need, Dani."
Despite the Gunners' interest in Olmo, they could face competition from Manchester United in signing the forward. As per The Mirror, the Red Devils are in dire need of reinforcements in the January transfer window. The potential departure of Marcus Rashford is also on the cards.
Dani Olmo joined Barcelona for a reported €62 million from RB Leipzig in August 2024. In 15 outings for La Blaugrana across competitions, the Spain international has contributed six goals and one assist. It remains to be seen if the Catalans can register Olmo by today - in which case Manchester United and Arsenal may not have hopes of signing him.
