Both Newcastle United great Alan Shearer and Arsenal legend Ian Wright were left impressed by Mohamed Salah's outing in Liverpool's 2-1 league win over Brighton & Hove Albion.
Earlier this Saturday, the Merseyside club went behind to Ferdi Kadioglu's stunning 14th-minute goal. However, Cody Gakpo pulled one back in the 69th minute before Salah scored the winner in the 72nd minute.
After the end of the encounter, Shearer heaped special praise on the Egyptian star for his fine finishing prowess on his preferred left foot. He said (h/t Liverpool Echo):
"There's not many people, if any, better than him in that position where he gets it onto his left foot. It's all right saying you can't let him, it's another actually stopping him. Once he gets in that position, you know you're in desperate trouble. It's unbelievable. How many times have we seen him do it? Whatever happens with his contract, he's incredible, world-class and I love watching him."
Agreeing with the Magpies great, Wright pitched in and added:
"It was a quiet game for Mohamed Salah but then, just like he did at Arsenal [last Sunday], if you get him in this situation you cannot let him come inside. It's very easy to say but it's very difficult to stop. You're watching that game and you're thinking that Mo Salah hasn't said much. But you know when it comes down to it, he's probably going to show himself and that's what he did."
Salah, who is in the final year of his current deal, is in excellent form right now. The 32-year-old has found the back of the net nine times and recorded seven assists in 15 total games for Liverpool this campaign.
Arne Slot lauds Liverpool ace after recent win
At a post-match press conference, Reds head coach Arne Slot praised Joe Gomez for producing a brilliant cameo performance earlier this Saturday. He told reporters (h/t liverpoolfc.com):
"That says a lot about his mentality. That also says a lot about his quality. If you don't play that much and you come in, in a game where your teammates were outplayed for 45 minutes, and play like this. And it also says a lot about his mentality in recent weeks and months, where he didn't play that much."
Gomez, who replaced Ibrahima Konate at the half-time break, completed 22 of his 25 passes in 45 minutes of action against Brighton. The 27-year-old also won one of his one tackle and all four of his total duels.
So far this term, Gomez has started two of his seven total appearances.
