Manchester United attacker Alejandro Garnacho has named club legend Ryan Giggs ahead of Cristiano Ronaldo as the Red Devils' greatest-ever player.
Giggs is a bonafide United legend and one of the game's finest one-club players. In 963 appearances across competitions between 1990-91 and 2013-14, the Welshman amassed 168 goals and 265 assists. He bagged a slew of titles, including 13 Premier League and two UEFA Champions League honours.
Meanwhile, Ronaldo is one of the finest goalscorers in the game's history, with over 900 goals for club and country. It was during his first stint at United between 2003 and 2009 that he blossomed into a world-beater under legendary boss Sir Alex Ferguson.
Although he returned to Old Trafford for a second stint in 2021, it was less successful, as he went trophyless, finishing with an overall tally of 144 goals.
Ranking Manchester United's 10 greatest players, Garnacho explained (via TBR) why he placed Giggs above Ronaldo at No. 1:
“Giggs, oh, that could be the number one man, yeah, put him at number one and then Zlatan at number seven and it’s perfect."
The other players in the Argentine's list (from No. 3 to No. 10) are as follows: Wayne Rooney, Paul Scholes, Nemanja Vidic, Rio Ferdinand, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Robin van Persie, Paul Pogba and Patrice Evra. Among the group, Ibrahimvoic and Pogba are the only ones who didn't win the Premier League at Old Trafford.
How has former Manchester United striker Cristiano Ronaldo fared this season?
Cristiano Ronaldo is the most prolific goalscorer in the game's history, having amassed 916 times for club and country in his illustrious career spanning over two decades.
The soon-to-be 40-year-old has been in impressive form for his current club, Al-Nassr, whom he joined in December 2022 on a free transfer after two decades in European football.
Ronaldo has bagged 16 goals and three assists in 19 games across competitions for Stefano Pioli's side. Most of those goal contributions - 10 goals and two assists in 12 games - have come in the Saudi Pro League, where Al-Nassr are fourth, 11 points behind leaders Al-Ittihad (36).
The former Manchester United striker has also struck four times in the AFC Champions League Elite, where Pioli's side are third after six games. Ronaldo has scored twice in as many games in the Saudi Super Cup as well, where Al-Nassr lost to reigning champions Al-Hilal in the final.
