Pundit highlights two reasons why Liverpool failed to win Premier League title

Pundit Garth Crook has highlighted two key reasons why Liverpool failed to win the Premier League this season. The Reds were involved in a heated three-horse title race for most parts of the season but eventually fell off at the end to finish third.

Garth insisted that the departure of experienced players like James Milner and Jordan Henderson hurt the Reds' chances. He also claimed that Jurgen Klopp's announcement of stepping down from the managerial hot seat might have impacted the Merseyside giants in a negative way. The former Stoke City striker said, as quoted by Anfield Watch:

"To have selected only one Liverpool player for my team says it all really. Liverpool have not only let the title slip from their grasp, they have shown signs that the pressure was starting to get to them. The departure of James Milner and Jordan Henderson cannot be quantified, but it was left to Virgil van Dijk to hold it all together. Gone are the days when the team used to pick itself."

Crook added:

"Neither can we be sure what impact the timing of Jurgen Klopp’s announcement, that he was leaving Anfield at the end of the season, had on the players. All of these were factors of Liverpool’s title failure, but they are back in the Champions League – and who can forget that heroic performance by Van Dijk in the League Cup final against Chelsea?"

The Reds are braced for a huge summer with Jurgen Klopp exiting and Arne Slot already being named his successor. Klopp's side eventually finished third, nine points behind champions Manchester City and seven points behind second-placed Arsenal.

Liverpool superstar pays tribute to Jurgen Klopp as the German leaves the club

Liverpool right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold has paid a heartfelt tribute to Jurgen Klopp as the German manager is set to depart the club after almost nine years in charge. The England international came through the youth ranks of the Merseyside giants under Klopp and has become a mainstay in the first team.

Alexander-Arnold has featured 310 times under Klopp, contributing 19 goals and 81 assists to establish himself as one of the best creators in world football. Hailing Klopp's impact on his career, the 25-year-old said:

“He changed my Life. He made my dreams come true. I haven’t cried for years."

Klopp has won a total of eight trophies during his time at Anfield, with Alexander-Arnold playing a key role behind his success.
