Fans have taken to social media to react to reports that Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) superstar Lionel Messi is set to reignite his rivalry with Cristiano Ronaldo in Saudi Arabia.

Messi faces an uncertain future with Les Parisiens as his contract expires at the end of the season. There have been claims that he is inclined towards leaving the French giants as a free agent this summer.

Talk of the Argentinian leaving PSG gathered pace after the club handed him a two-week suspension for making an unsanctioned trip to Saudi Arabia last week. Fabrizio Romano recently reportedly that Messi is now certain to leave the Ligue 1 heavyweights.

A return to Barcelona has been mooted as a serious possibility for the 2022 FIFA World Cup winner ahead of the summer. Major League Soccer outfit Inter Miami have also been credited with an interest in signing Messi.

However, Saudi Pro League giants Al-Hilal are the only club to have made a concrete offer for Messi. It has been widely reported that the forward has received an offer worth €400 million a year from the Riyadh-based club.

The latest report from Agence France-Presse has claimed that Messi has agreed to move to Saudi Arabia. The 35-year-old is set to sign a 'huge' contract to join the SPL this summer.

Although the finances of the deal have not been revealed, it is expected to eclipse the €200 million-a-year salary that Ronaldo receives at Al-Nassr. It is also assumed that Messi's destination will be Al-Hilal.

Fans, meanwhile, have reacted to claims that the seven-time Ballon d'Or is moving to the Middle East, with one tweeting:

"(Lionel Messi is) always following Ronaldo's footsteps. Ronaldo really influenced the whole world of football."

Another tweeted:

"He (Lionel Messi) loves money too"

Here are some more reactions to the PSG superstar reportedly agreeing to move to Saudi Arabia:

There were suggestions that Messi is not sold on the idea of moving to Saudi Arabia due to concerns about the culture there. However, it appears the country has convinced the PSG superstar to change his mind.

Lionel Messi moving to Saudi Arabia will see him reignite his rivalry with Cristiano Ronaldo. The superstars could lock horns with each other when Al-Hilal and Al-Nassr play against each other in the Riyadh derby next season.

Fans will relish the opportunity to see them compete against each other before they retire even if it is away from Europe. At 35 and 38, the Argentinian and the Portuguese are nearing the end of their illustrious careers.
