Vanessa Souza, the attorney representing Manchester United star Antony's ex-girlfriend Gabriela Cavallin, has reportedly opted out of the case. She has seemingly left the case due to personal reasons as the investigation continues.
Taking to X, James Ducker of The Telegraph claimed that the latest twist in the case sees Cavallin hunting for a new lawyer. He added that the footballer's former partner has arrived in the United Kingdom and is speaking to the police.
She was interviewed by the GMP on Thursday and went on a different time than announced for security reasons. She added that there would be another round of questioning soon before hinting that she would head back to Brazil following that.
Antony announced last month that he was taking time off football because he was looking to help the police with their investigation. He posted:
"I have agreed with Manchester United to take a period of absence while I address the allegations made against me. This was a mutual decision to avoid distraction to my teammates and unnecessary controversy for the club. I want to reiterate my innocence of the things I have been accused of, and I will fully cooperate with the police to help them reach the truth. I look forward to returning to play as soon as possible."
The Brazilian star was added back to the squad by Manchester United earlier this month.
Manchester United announce the return of Antony
Manchester United announced that Antony was back in training this month and was ready to make their matchday squad. The Red Devils released a statement and claimed that they were still keeping a close eye on the investigation. It read:
"Since allegations were first made in June, Antony has cooperated with police inquiries in both Brazil and the UK, and he continues to do so. As Antony's employer, Manchester United has decided that he will resume training at Carrington, and be available for selection, while police inquiries proceed."
The statement continued:
"This will be kept under review pending further developments in the case. As a club, we condemn acts of violence and abuse. We recognise the importance of safeguarding all those involved in this situation, and acknowledge the impact these allegations have on survivors of abuse."
Antony has played two matches for the club since his return. He came off the bench against Galatasaray and Brentford but is yet to score or assist this season.
