Premier League legend Michael Owen has said that striker Alexander Isak, an Arsenal target, could be a great addition to every club in the competition except Manchester City.
Isak, 25, has been in good form for Newcastle United this season, registering 14 goals and four assists in 18 games across competitions. Thirteen of those goals and all four assists have come in the Premier League, where the Magpies are fifth after 20 games, trailing runaway leaders Liverpool (46) by 11 points.
Despite the Sweden international contracted with Newcastle till 2028, there has been no dearth of interest in his services from some of the top clubs in the Premier League.
With the Gunners said to be at the forefront in the queue for Isak, Owen heaped praise on the striker, saying on Premier League Productions (via Metro):
"He’s seriously good. Newcastle have done so well to get him, develop him and feed him. They have some good players in attacking positions and they play to his strengths. He would be one of the most sought-after players in the market."
"I would say only Man City probably wouldn’t or couldn’t do with him because of Erling Haaland. Apart from that, he would walk into every team in the Premier League."
The Arsenal target has been in top form in the Premier League, scoring in his last eight games, including a hat-trick at newly promoted Ipswich Town, helping the Magpies win their last five outings.
What's next for Arsenal?
Arsenal are in the midst of a decent season, being the closest challegers to Premier League leaders Liverpool, who have a game in hand. The Gunners, though, saw their three-game winning run in the competition end with a 1-1 draw at Brighton & Hove Albion at the weekend.
Nevertheless, with the Reds also dropping points in a thrilling 2-2 home draw with Manchester United, Mikel Arteta's side trail the leaders by six points. They next take on Newcastle at home in the EFL Cup semi-final first leg on Tuesday (January 7).
Five days later, they commence their FA Cup campaign by hosting Manchester United before returning to Premier League action on January 15 with a home game with Tottenham Hotspur.
In the UEFA Champions League, the Gunners are third, winning four of their opening six games, trailing leaders Liverpool by five points. They resume their European campaign with a home game with Dinamo Zagreb on January 22.
