“Are you f*****g kidding me?” - Sky Sports presenter Kelly Cates recalls how Cristiano Ronaldo left her in ‘shame’ after doubt about goal

Kelly Cates spoke about Cristiano Ronaldo's best goal.

Sky Sports presenter Kelly Cates revealed that a spectacular strike from Cristiano Ronaldo back in 2008 was the best goal she had seen live. Speaking to FourFourTwo, she opened up about the Portuguese star's splendid effort for Manchester United against Aston Villa.

With 17 minutes on the clock, the 39-year-old flicked the ball with his backheel instinctively inside the box and found the back of the net. That strike followed by three further assists earned him the Player of the Match award.

Cates had then asked Ronaldo if the effort was intentional or not. The star forward seemed to find the question bemusing, with the conversation between the two going as follows:

"One of the most memorable was years ago. I think it was against Aston Villa and it was pouring with rain.
"Cristiano Ronaldo sort of backheeled it, he did something strange. In the commentary they said, 'I’m not sure how deliberate it was' or something like that.
"The reason it sticks in my mind is because I did the post-match interview and asked, 'Did you mean it?' He went, 'Sorry?' I didn’t think he’d heard, but he had and he was like, 'Are you f**king kidding me? Yeah I meant it!' It’s more the shame of it all that stays with me!"

The 39-year-old had a fantastic 2007-08 campaign as the Red Devils won the Premier League and the Champions League. He bagged 42 goals and eight assists in 49 games across all competitions.

Cristiano Ronaldo to make decision on future with Al-Nassr - Reports

Al-Nassr star Cristiano Ronaldo is reportedly considering exploring a new challenge. According to Spanish outlet Marca, the 39-year-old could leave the Saudi Pro League side in the summer.

Currently, his contract is set to expire in the summer, with no rumours of extension talks between player and club. He joined the Riyadh side in the midst of the 2022-23 season after terminating his contract with Manchester United.

Ronaldo has been sensational for the side and arguably a driving factor behind many of top European stars making the move to the Middle East. He has collected 74 goals and 18 assists across 83 games but is yet to lift any silverware with Al-Nassr.

He has also expressed his desire to reach the mark of 1000 goals in his career. He crossed the 900-goal tally on international duty in September against Croatia.
