Arsenal have reportedly decided to sanction a permanent exit from the club for on-loan forward Reiss Nelson once the summer window opens. The Hale End graduate struggled to nail down a regular berth at the Emirates Stadium before heading out on loan to Fulham in the summer.
Regarded as one of the brightest prospects from the Arsenal academy in his teenage years, Nelson made his debut for the club in the 2017-18 season aged just 17. The skillful winger saw his progression suffer over the years due to a number of injury problems, which culminated in him leaving the club for a third loan spell in the summer.
According to the Daily Mail, Arsenal have decided to move on from Reiss Nelson, regardless of his loan spell at Craven Cottage. The 25-year-old has scored two goals in 13 appearances for the Cottagers this season but has no future back at his parent club.
Nelson signed a new Arsenal contract in the summer of 2023 amid speculation over his future at the time. He played a bit-part role for Mikel Arteta's side in the 2023-24 season, making only 23 appearances, totaling 641 minutes in the season.
Reiss Nelson has played on loan in Germany with Hoffenheim and the Netherlands with Feyenoord in his search for regular first-team minutes. He will have interest in the summer, with clubs from within and outside England keen on signing the forward.
Nelson is presently dealing with a hamstring problem, which has kept him out of action for their last three games. He is expected to return to action for the Cottagers in February for the second half of the season.
Arsenal set English football record with win over Crystal Palace
Arsenal have set a new record in English football after claiming a convincing 5-1 win over fellow London outfit Crystal Palace on Saturday. The Gunners defeated the Eagles for a second time in the space of a few days, having won 3-2 against them in the Carabao Cup.
Gabriel Jesus continued his resurgence for Mikel Arteta's side with a well-taken brace to set them on their way to victory. According to Opta, by scoring five goals at Selhurst Park, the Gunners became the first club in England's top-flight to score five or more goals in six away games in a calendar year.
Kai Havertz, Gabriel Martinelli, and Declan Rice were also on the scoresheet for the Gunners as they closed the gap to second-placed Chelsea to just two points. One negative for the side was the loss of influential forward Bukayo Saka to injury in the first half of the game.
