Mikel Arteta's Arsenal are reportedly set to compete against Newcastle United and Aston Villa to sign Bologna attacker Santiago Castro, as per CaughtOffside. Arsenal see the 20-year-old as a promising prospect, who can outperform the current atrackers.
Castro joined Bologna from Velez Sarsfield in January 2022. Since then, the Argentine attacker has made 28 appearances for Bologna across all competitions, bagging six goals and seven assists. He has also played 13 matches for the under-23 team of Argentina, scoring two goals.
The Gunners have been actively shortlisting attackers to find a replacement for former Manchester City forward Gabriel Jesus. As per the aforementioned report, Mikel Arteta thinks Santiago Castro can succeed at the Emirates Stadium in the place of the Brazilian forward.
Enzo Maresca's Chelsea are also interested in signing the Bologna forward as they have been investing in young players. The Blues have invested heavily in Enzo Fernandez, Cole Palmer, Moises Caicedo and more in the past years.
Chelsea have also signed young South American players such as Estevao Willian and Kendry Paez, who will move to Stamford Bridge after getting a little older. Meanwhile, the Gunners have also developed young players such as Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli and William Saliba.
Arsenal star set to play his first match for the Gunners after 16 months
As per Daily Record, Scottish defender Kieran Tierney is set to make his return to Arsenal during the Gunners' UEFA Champions League clash against Monaco on Wednesday, December 11. He last played for the North London club 16 months ago and against Monaco, he can make his first appearance for the Gunners this season.
Tierney joined Arsenal from Scottish side Celtic in August 2019. For a period, he was the Gunners' first-choice fullback. However, due to injuries and a decline in performance, the Scotsman fell down in the pecking order.
For the 2023-24 season, he was sent on a loan deal to Real Sociedad, where he made 27 appearances across all competitions, assisting two goals. Tierney also missed a series of matches due to a hamstring injury.
The Scotsman suffered another injury during the 2024 European Championships. Due to that, he missed the initial matches of the season. Playing for the North London side, he has made 124 appearances, bagging five goals and 13 assists across all competitions.
