Arsenal are plotting a move for Feyenoord striker Santiago Gimenez this transfer window, according to reports (via The Hard Tackle). The Gunners, however, will face competition from Fulham in the race for his signature.
Mikel Arteta has been in the market for a striker for a while now. The Gunners have been linked with various forwards, including Victor Osimhen, Alexander Isak, Dusan Vlahovic, and Benjamin Sesko.
Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz are their main options up front. The Brazilian has been in an excellent run of form recently, having scored six goals in his last four games for the north Londoners.
Havertz also has 12 goals and three assists to his name across all competitions so far this season. However, reports suggest that Arsenal will continue their search for a prolific goal-scoring No. 9 who can help them end their drought for a Premier League title.
Bukayo Saka's recent hamstring injury, which could see him sidelined until March, has further exacerbated Arsenal's need for attacking reinforcements in the January transfer window.
The Gunners have now set their sights on Feyenoord's Santiago Gimenez, with Fulham also battling to secure his services this window. Since moving to the Netherlands in 2022, the 23-year-old striker has racked up 59 goals and 14 assists in 100 appearances for Feyenoord.
Gimenez's contract with the club runs until 2027, and Arsenal could have to pay a substantial fee to sign him.
Pundit urges Arsenal not to sign Newcastle United forward Alexander Isak
Darren Bent has warned Arsenal against signing Newcastle United's Alexander Isak. The pundit believes the Gunners need a more versatile forward in their squad.
Isak has shown deftness in front of goal as a No. 9, scoring 126 goals and providing 25 assists in 281 games throughout his professional career. However, the Swedish forward has rarely played as a winger, making just nine appearances in those positions.
With Saka on the sidelines, Bent insists that the Gunners need an attacker who can play across the front three. Discussing the club's interest in Isak on Premier League Productions, he said:
"I think now all of a sudden you're looking around to see who's going to be perfect. You might have to find someone who is a little bit more versatile, that can play centre forward, can play left, can play right, just to add goals. But I think if you're quite narrow-minded and go, 'right, we want one centre forward for this position', how many are out there? How many of those type of centre forwards can you go and get?"
