Mikel Arteta's Arsenal are considering a move for Brentford midfielder Mikkel Damsgaard in the ongoing transfer window, as per Spanish outlet Fichajes.net. The Gunners rate the Danish midfielder highly and are keen to sign the 24-year-old in the winter market.
Damsgaard joined Brentford from Italian side Sampdoria on a five-year deal in August 2022. Since then, the Danish midfielder has made 78 appearances across all competitions, bagging 13 goals and 21 assists. Despite being an attacker originally, Damsgaard has established himself as an attacking midfielder for the Bees.
The Danish midfielder has played 24 matches for the Bees, scoring three goals and providing seven assists in the Premier League and the Carabao Cup this season. Multiple football clubs are interested in signing the Danish midfielder, including Mikel Arteta's Arsenal.
His contract with Brentford will expire in the summer of 2027 and the Dane is reportedly valued at €40 million. However, signing him won't be easy for the Gunners as he's an important figure in Thomas Frank's Brentford. Meanwhile, joining the Gunners would be a huge leap in his football career.
The Gunners see Mikkel Damsgaard as a future investment and his versatility as a player will also benefit the North London club. The 24-year-old has also played 31 matches for the Danish national team, scoring four goals.
Arsenal and Manchester United suffer huge blow in the race to sign Premier League attacker: Reports
Wolverhampton Wanderers attacker Matheus Cunha is reportedly close to signing a long-term contract extension with the club, as per the Telegraph. The contract extension will halt all the speculation around the Brazilian forward's name in the winter transfer window.
Cunha is in advanced talks of an extension with the Wolves and the final announcement will be made within the next two weeks. Fabrizio Romano has also confirmed that Cunha and the Premier League club have verbally agreed on the contract extension.
Arsenal are interested in signing Matheus Cunha as a replacement for Gabriel Jesus. Additionally, the Brazilian attacker will be an important addition to the squad amid the injuries of Bukayo Saka and Raheem Sterling. Ruben Amorim's Manchester United are also keen to sign a consistent attacker as Joshua Zirkzee and Marcus Rashford are nearing a departure from Old Trafford.
Cunha joined the Wolves on a permanent transfer in July 2023 from Atletico Madrid after a six-month loan spell. In 76 appearances for Wolves, Cunha has scored 26 goals and has provided 13 assists.
