Fans reacted following Jadon Sancho's performance in Chelsea's 2-1 Premier League loss at leaders Liverpool on Sunday (October 20). It marked the Blues' first defeat in eight games across competitions.
The Reds drew first blood through Mohamed Salah's 29th-minute penalty as Arne Slot's side led at the break. The Blues drew parity through Nicolas Jackson three minutes into the second period before Curtis Jones put Liverpool back in front three minutes later, a lead they wouldn't relinquish.
Fans were especially critical of on-loan Manchester United attacker Sancho's performance for the Blues, as the Englishman had a forgettable first half, making no dribbles and winning no ground duels or tackles.
One fan noted:
"He's back to his old ways lmfao"
Another chimed in:
"Sancho was making Trent look like prime Cafu"
Another fan said :
"MUFC fans laughing at Chelsea fans meltdown on Sancho who let them to believe he was a star player with 2-yard assist. You didn't scam us little bro; we did!! Back to default setting!!"
There were similar reactions from other fans, with one posting:
"I wouldn't wish Sancho on my worst enemy. His whole bag is waiting for the full-back to overlap & pass it to them."
Another commented:
"I'm so disappointed in Sancho. WTF is that performance"
Following the loss, Enzo Maresca's side dropped to sixth in the standings, while the Reds remain atop the pile, a point ahead of four-time defending champions Manchester City, who won 2-1 at Wolverhampton Wanderers.
"We defended really well and limited them" - Liverpool full-back Andy Robertson after beating Chelsea
Liverpool full-back Andy Robertson admitted that his team faced a tough time against Chelsea at Anfield on Sunday but expressed his pride at how they defended their lead in the second half.
Robertson reminisced the tough battles the Reds have had with Chelsea over the years and was happy with the way his team found a way to take all three points, telling MOTD (via the BBC):
"It is always like that - two good teams going at it. We have had good games over the years against them. It is always difficult. It took us a little time to get going, but once we did, I think we were quite comfortable in the first half. In the second we defended really well and limited them.
"After the last international break, we let ourselves down against Nottingham Forest, and we were determined to put that right, and I think we did that. There are different ways to win, and today was one we had to grind out. We have played better this season, but we got two crucial goes and defended well for the most part."
Chelsea next take on Panathinaikos away in the UEFA Europa Conference League on Thursday (October 24).
