Rodri emulates Cristiano Ronaldo with Ballon d'Or triumph
Manchester City midfielder Rodri has emulated Cristiano Ronaldo with his win at the 2024 Ballon d'Or gala. The Spaniard was handed the award after emerging as the winner based on a number of criteria, chiefly performance on the pitch.
Rodri was instrumental as Manchester City won an unprecedented fourth straight league title in the 2023-24 season. The midfielder also won the Player of the Tournament award as Spain won Euro 2024 earlier this summer.
Formerly of Atletico Madrid, the 28-year-old became the first player from the Premier League to receive the award since Ronaldo did as a Manchester United player 16 years ago. He is also the first midfielder to win the award since Luka Modric in 2018.
