Liverpool great Jamie Carragher has claimed that Real Madrid transfer target Trent Alexander-Arnold is never going to win the famed Ballon d'Or award at the Reds.
Last week, Alexander-Arnold asserted that he is keen to become the first full-back to win the individual honour in an interview with Sky Sports.
However, Carragher is of the opinion that the 26-year-old would not be able to win the prestigious award at Liverpool. When asked to opine on the right-back's recent comments, he replied (h/t Tribal Football):
"I don't care, he can try to win the Ballon d'Or, nothing wrong with ambition but my first thought when I read that was: 'You're not going to win the Ballon d'Or as a right back for Liverpool'. Ballon d'Or winners normally play for Real Madrid or Barcelona. The vast majority, the players in the world go."
Carragher, who represented the Reds 737 times as a player, said:
"If that's his ultimate ambition, I think he was asked about winning the World Cup, Champions League or Ballon d'Or and he chose the Ballon d’Or, which I think was a bit strange or bizarre because I'd always pick World Cup or Champions League, it's a team game. But yeah, he’s got massive ambition and why not? You only get one career, he is a unique full-back, he is absolutely amazing."
Alexander-Arnold, who is in the final year of his deal, has relished a fine career so far. He has lifted eight silverwares for his club and has cemented himself as one of the top playmakers in the world over the years. The Real Madrid target has scored 19 goals and registered 83 assists in 322 appearances across competitions for the Reds so far.
Real Madrid keen to offload Liverpool target
According to Spanish news website Fichajes.net, Real Madrid are willing to offload Aurelien Tchouameni in the future. They have arrived at the aforesaid stance after the 24-year-old midfielder's below-par outing in the 4-0 league defeat to Barcelona earlier this Saturday.
Real Madrid, who are six points behind La Liga leaders Barcelona, have slapped a price tag of £75 million on the Frenchman. Liverpool and Chelsea are said to huge admirers of the former AS Monaco player.
Tchouameni, 24, has started 13 of his 14 overall appearances for Carlo Ancelotti's outfit so far this campaign. The one-time UEFA Champions League winner has yet to score or provide an assist for his club.
