Barcelona sporting director Deco views Luis Diaz as an ideal fit for the club ahead of their potential target Nico Williams, as per reports from El Nacional. The 27-year-old is likely to become one of the players the Catalans will be keen on signing in the 2025 summer transfer window from English club Liverpool.

Diaz has been in stellar form for Liverpool this season, scoring seven goals and bagging two assists in the 16 matches he has played so far. The Colombian usually likes to operate on the left wing, although he can be persuaded to play as a sole centre-forward or right-winger on the odd occasion.

Deco, meanwhile, feels that Diaz could be ideal for Barcelona under new manager Hansi Flick. The Spanish giants - who are third in LaLiga - put a lot of emphasis on mobility in congested areas as well as possession, and Diaz excels in these skills. His willingness and ability to do well in tight spaces has worked in his favor.

Although Barca were keen on looking at Athletic Bilbao's Nico Williams, Diaz appears to have become a frontrunner in this race. Williams has had a poor run of form this season, notching up just one goal and three assists in the 17 matches he has played in LaLiga this season.

Barcelona will have to pay a hefty transfer fee to Liverpool for Luis Diaz

Diaz, who arrived at Liverpool from FC Porto in the 2022 January transfer window, has a contract till the summer of 2027. It is highly unlikely that Liverpool will let him go cheaply, and it appears as if Barcelona will have to shell out a more than significant amount to avail of his services.

Liverpool manager Arne Slot has taken a liking towards Diaz as the latter has shown consistency with 35 goals in 121 appearances for the club so far. The Reds are ranked right at the top of the league table at the time of writing with 39 points to their name, and will take on Leicester City next on Boxing Day.
