Indian international cricketer Kuldeep Yadav aimed a cheeky dig at Real Madrid after Barcelona beat them in the final to win the Supercopa de Espana. Los Blancos were stunned by Barca, who, despite going down to ten men, won the match 5-2.
Yadav, who is a Barcelona fan, took to the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to mock Los Blancos. The 30-year-old spinner wrote:
"Good night Real Madrid," tagging the Spanish giants' official X account to the post.
Here's the post:
The final, which was played at the King Abdullah Sports City in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia on January 12, started with Madrid opening the scoring early on through Kylian Mbappe (5'). However, Barca soon ran their eternal rivals into the ground.
In the 22nd minute, Lamine Yamal scored with a sublime effort to equalize. In the 35th minute, the referee consulted VAR before giving Barca a penalty, with Eduardo Camavinga deemed to have fouled Gavi inside the box. Robert Lewandowski buried the penalty to put the Blaugrana ahead 2-1 (36').
Minutes later, the Catalan giants tightened the screws again, with Raphinha scoring with a bullet header from a Jules Kounde cross (39'). In stoppage time of the first half, Alejandro Balde made it 4-1, finishing off a counter-attack that caught Real Madrid out of position.
In the second half, Raphinha added his second goal of the night, putting the score at 5-1 (48'). Things seemed to improve for Madrid after Barcelona goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny was sent off for a poor tackle on Kylian Mbappe in the 56th minute.
Rodrygo scored from the resulting free-kick (60'), with Inaki Pena in goal, for the scoreline to read 5-2. But despite the numerical advantage, Real Madrid failed to take charge of the proceedings and score more goals.
Hansi Flick delighted after Barcelona clinch strong win over Real Madrid
Barcelona manager Hansi Flick shared his delight after the Blaugrana beat Real Madrid in the Supercopa de Espana final. The win gave the German tactician his first trophy with the Catalan giants.
Speaking after the game, he said (via FotMob):
"I'm very proud of the team, the staff, the club, the fans, everyone who supports Barca. I am proud to manage such an incredible team. After Szczesny was sent off, it wasn't easy for anyone. We the coaches had a little discussion and I thank them all because in the end we made the right decision.
"We are a team. You could see that after the win, but it always shows. We stick together and our aim is to learn from every game. At big clubs, the goal is to win titles. And that's what we're working towards. We are very happy and proud but we need to keep showing that we are the best in every game."
Barcelona will return to action on January 15, when they face Real Betis in the Copa del Rey Round of 16 at the Lluis Companys stadium. On January 16, Real Madrid will face Celta Vigo at the same stage of the cup competition at the Santiago Bernabeu.
