Barcelona have been pleased with the performances of star striker Robert Lewandowski this season and are prepared to extend his contract with the club. The club considers the Poland international as a crucial player for them at present and a key contributor to their future as well.

Lewandowski was sensational for Barcelona in his debut season at the club in 2022-23, winning the Pichichi trophy as they won LaLiga. His form, alongside the club's, dwindled in his second season (2023-24) in Spain as they lost the title to Real Madrid and sacked Xavi this summer.

The arrival of Hansi Flick, who worked with Lewandowski at Bayern Munich, in Catalonia has been the catalyst for the striker to find his best level. The 36-year-old has been in sensational form in front of goal this season, scoring 19 goals and providing two assists in only 16 appearances for La Blaugrana.

SPORT reports that Barcelona are pleased with the contributions of Robert Lewandowski and are on the verge of activating the option to extend his contract. The Polish striker's contract, due to expire in 2025, includes a clause to trigger a one-year extension if he plays half of their matches this season.

While this automatic extension would tie him down to the club until 2026, La Blaugrana are reportedly considering adding another year to the deal to keep him until 2027.

Lewandowski is happy in Spain, having resisted attempts from other sides to sign him over the summer. The former Bayern Munich man is said to be willing to reduce his wages to stay at the club until 2027.

Barcelona are actively looking to lighten the load on Lewandowski, who will be nearing his 38th birthday by the time his contract runs out. Barca are reportedly looking at potential free agents who can complement the striker as he enters the twilight of his career.

Barcelona star nears UEFA Champions League landmark in win over Crvena zvezda

Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski is on the cusp of attaining a major UEFA Champions League landmark after scoring a brace in his side's win over Crvena zvezda. The LaLiga leaders claimed a comfortable 5-2 win away from home in Serbia to pick up their third win in four Champions League games.

Lewandowski was on the scoresheet for Barcelona, as has become customary this season, in the 43rd and 53rd minutes. His brace took him to 99 goals in the competition, leaving him just one goal shy of a century of Champions League goals.

In the history of the UEFA Champions League, only Cristiano Ronaldo (140 goals) and Lionel Messi (129 goals) have scored over 100 goals. Lewandowski is expected to break into the elusive club this season.
