Barcelona striker Vitor Roque's wife Dayana Lins shared a message for her husband after he scored a penalty against AC Milan in a pre-season friendly. It came in their penalty shootout defeat against the Italian side at the M&T Bank Stadium in Maryland on Tuesday, August 6.
Luka Jovic (10') and Christian Pulisic (15') put AC Milan 2-0 up early in the game. Barca struck back with Robert Lewandowski scoring in the 22nd minute. He then restored parity and completed his brace in the 58th minute. With the scores level after 90 minutes, the game went into a penalty shootout.
As per Barca Universal on X, before the shootout, Vitor Roque was seen in an argument with Barcelona coach Thiago Alcantara.
However, the Brazilian did end up taking a penalty and scored as well. His wife Dayana Lins posted a story on her Instagram account to support her husband, writing:
"I'm so proud of you, my husband."
The Blaugrana, however, lost the shootout 4-3. Ismael Bennacer and Pierre Kalulu missed the spot kicks for AC Milan while Jules Kounde, Quim Junyet, and Mikayil Faye missed for Barca.
Roque, meanwhile, has been linked with a move away from Barcelona after just six months since his arrival. He joined the club from Athletico Paranaense for €40 million in January 2024 and registered two goals in 16 assists last season.
As per transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Saudi Arabian side Al-Hilal are interested in signing the Brazilian forward.
Hansi Flick pleased with Barcelona's performance in penalty shootout defeat against AC Milan
The Blaugrana ended their pre-season tour in the US with a penalty shootout defeat against AC Milan. They were the much better side but could only manage a 2-2 draw after the 90 minutes. Barcelona had 51% possession and 7/17 attempts on target as compared to Milan's 2/4 on-target attempts.
Barca manager Hansi Flick, though, was pleased with his side's performance and their intensity. He said (via Barca Universal):
“When we all press with intensity, that’s the way to go. Sometimes we have to be braver because it’s necessary. After the break we improved, we changed. It was fantastic how we pressed, the whole team was intense. This is what we want. In the second half, we had several chances and they had problems.”
Barcelona will next host AS Monaco in a friendly on August 12 before facing Valencia away in their La Liga opener on August 17.
